I can't speak for others, but after doing the latest firmware update, I have not had any playback issues. Every Blu ray or DVD I've watched has played flawlessly. Quick start makes this unit load discs faster than my previous Sony Blu ray player and the tray ejects instantaneously. Good unit.

This blu-ray player is awesome, when it works. I've had a few movies that are very difficult to play, and some that won't play at all...most are not problematic. Last night, however, I tried to watch "Interview with the Vampire" and not only would it not play, because it was an "incompatible disc",(um, it's blu-ray...what is the problem?) it also has caused ALL of my other blu-rays to now read as "incompatible discs". I'm so very pleased I dropped $300 on this thing last year, and have amassed a nice collection of blu-rays only to not be able to watch ANY of them. I'm sure if I reset the system, restart, possibly download some firmware (which is no longer available on the Sharp site), cover myself in molasses and dance in a counterclockwise circle by the light of the full moon, it will work again. NOTHING should be this much of a pain. Seriously, my computer is less problematic (of course, it is a Mac). Even if this is a great price point, don't buy this unless you have the patience of a saint, and the brains of an IT geek.

This unit (like the HP 20U before it) is no longer listed on the Sharp web site, there are no firmware upgrades, and you can no longer reach tech support for it by phone. This appears to be another failed product and Sharp has abandoned it and their customers.

I bought this product 2 months ago, it only worked the first time, took a lot of time to charge the movie, then I tried to move my BD into a new location,took the cable, and the hdmi out was broken! I understand this product is an entry level model, but come on, so I called Sharp service and they told me I need to pay for this, the shipment ($40) and the revision ($50), I should pay a minimum of $90!!! for a product like this? come on! I do not recommend this product at all! I feel the quality is very poor and the service also.

Since this a entry level blu-ray player, I read up on all of the positives and negatives of this model. The first couple of blu=rays I bought- no problem. Then I tried the T2-Skynet Edition and it wouldn't play. After downloading the firmware update from the Sharp website, though, and installing it in the player-no issues. It also brings a real crispness and clarity to my standard dvds. Avery good buy, for the money.
