"Good quality for what you pay" 2009-09-04
By Damien (Florida)
This is a very practical purchase. It is a good price for the quality. That said, I haven't myself had any issues with the DVD player and hopefully this review doesn't jinx me. Have owned for between 1 to 1.5 years.

-Pros-

1 Price is right

2 I do enjoy the picture quality (upscaling) of the DVDs

3 Very easy to set up and I don't have to mess with it (turn it off/on)

4 I like the remote - has a one touch surround button to go from party to dolby surround mode

5 I don't use it much, but the radio clarity/quality is good

6 Coxial Digital Audio input

-Cons-

1 Can't change many setting from the front panel you have to go into the video setup menu

2 Can't change individual channel levels on the fly (have to go into the video setup)

3 I don't get a convincing feel for sound behind me - this might be an issue with my room setup though

4 No optical input or HDMI output (although these are easy to work around but may cost a little extra in adapters or converter boxes)

-Additional Notes-

1 Party mode - good for stereo input (laptop mic out) or radio - it puts out level volume across the channels

2 Power cuts - I did have an issue with it being buggy after a storm once - none of my other electronics had a problem but I had to play with it (leave it unplugged for an hour) before it returned to its usual self

3 Hear popping or crackling every now then if it on but no audio is playing

This was more a stop gap purchase for me as I didn't want to buy a blu ray player at the time. I will transition into full HD audio in the future (waiting for HD aduio receivers to get cheaper that support DTS HD Master Audio) but didn't want to spend much now.

Hope this helps!

 "Dose not play DVDS!!!" 2009-08-14
By Jacqi (Houston)
I got this in December and didn't set it up till February. Today it stopped playing DVDs same story. Skipped a bunch then just stopped playing them all together. I used the DVD player maybe 10 times before it stopped working. This thing is pitiful. For the price I expected the weak volume control (very loud or very quiet.) Now it's just trash I guess.

"No HDMI input! Only output! Bad!" 2009-08-12

If you want to connect an xbox or a ps3 to get the surround experience you'll have to use component cable. There is only HDMI output, no HDMI input. PS3 and 360 use HDMI for sharpest picture as well

 "Great unit" 2009-06-25
By Randy L. Moulton (Wisconsin)
If you looking for a nice sounding system for a small price this is the one. I have to say I upgraded the speakers and it has taken this system to new level. Because of the arrangement in my room I have a Bose Acoustimass 3 Series IV speaker system in front and Polk Audio RC65i 2-Way in-wall speakers in the back. The center channel speaker is a a Yamaha NS-C225 2-Way Acoustic Suspension center channel speaker. This setup sound awesome!!! Keep in mind a good center channel speaker is very important. The picture is also great with the upconvert. Save money on new dvds.

"it was great while it worked!" 2009-06-16
By C. Deacon (Florida)
I loved this unit and it went great with our large screen TV we got at the same time -- 7 months later and DVD's pause/skip while you are watching them or sometimes stop altogether, no matter what you do, if DVD is new or not....tried DVD headcleaner disk that cleans the lens, still has the problem. And I noticed others that bought this unit report the same problem - DVD's stop playing after a while and after the 90 day period too, of course. So if you want a great, affordable home theater set up for about 6-7 months, this is the one to get. :p

But the audio still works for USB port playing music and the TV. The fault is in the DVD player part which you can also hear at times as it grinds to a halt.

I didn't buy this unit through Amazon, just thought I would report my findings.
