 "Samsung Support" 2009-10-08

Samsung does not support their products. My Samsung HTS displays movies off center. After 3 trips to their shop still not working. Steer clear of Samsung as will I.Samsung HT-Z522 Home Theater System

 "Great Sound System" 2009-09-25
By datmanty (Washington DC)
Pros: Sound quality is excellent, Wireless rear speakers just work no configuring necessary once card is inserted into dvd/receiver unit. Can read usb drives to play avi's and a few other formats also you can use data dvd/cd and the software will recognize and play it along with the 5.1 audio if the avi has it. I am able to hook all my compenents such as HD Cable/PS3/PC up at the same time to utilize surround sound for those devices. I have the PC connected through aux1, PS3 through optical, and cable through Aux2 Red/White RCA cable.

Cons: The rear wireless speaker receiver has a pretty loud fan it would be nice if it was quieter. Not too bad you could possibly store it in a box or another room. You only hear the sound when everything goes quiet not while your blasting the sound system.

I would also love to have a few more additional optical/auxiliary ports in the back and an additional HDMI but I guess the average person would only have maybe 3 devices needing to use surround sound.

"GREAT Value for the money" 2009-08-23
By J. White
Just installed the HT-TZ522T last week and have been very impressed so far. Because of the layout of our family room, running wires to the rear was going to be difficult, so the wireless feature was a big plus. I've found it to work flawlessly. The autosetup feature for the speakers (which automatically sets the volumes and delays for all speakers independently) was a snap to use and very effective. The one worry that I had about buying this unit was the lack of inputs. HOWEVER, there is a very simple solution if you have a TV with ample inputs. I have a new 46" Samsung LCD with tons of inputs (component and HDMI), so I just bought a $3 digital (optical) audio cable and connected my TV's audio out to the optical audio in on the HT-TZ522T. Then simply use the TV's inputs for whatever you want. Between the inputs on the HT-TZ522T and my TV's inputs, I don't consider this a limitation at all...

 "A word of caution..." 2009-08-21

I suggest that anyone contemplating purchasing this unit and expecting to use it longer than a year seriously consider, instead, paying a bit more for an independent speaker system and independent media player.

I had to give some rating to this thing, and I didn't want to skew the ratings downward when I can't speak to this exact model, BUT...

I'm extremely disappointed and upset with Samsung products in general, particularly their home theater systems. In my experience, they work just long enough to get out of warranty, then start falling apart. They don't manufacture any given product long enough for it to get out of warranty, so, no one can ever write a negative review of one of their products based on that. Hence, this cautionary "review."

I bought one of their HDTV's in January, 2007, on the strength of their reputation as a leader in HDTV picture tubes. In less than 13 months, one of the two speakers simply stopped working. I was aggrevated, and cursed my luck at having it break so close to the end of the warranty period. But, I took it as an opportunity to upgrade to a home theater system.

The Samsung home theater system that was most closely analogous to the one reviewed here was receiving reviews as positive as the ones I see predominating the above comments. I bought it in February of 2008. It's now August of 2009, and the DVD player has just stopped working. (It still functions as a speaker system and radio... it just cannot read discs). I'm forced to pay $170 (+ $48 packing/shipping) to get it repaired, or pay for a whole new system. According to the technicians, the speakers and subwoofer are incompatible with anything other than this particular media unit. I just barely decided to get it repaired-- I find it immorally wasteful to throw away so much hardware just because one small part broke down. If it breaks down again anytime soon, though, I'll be very upset.

I have purchased numerous electronic products over the years from many manufacturers. I've had very good luck with JVC, Sony and Klipsch; I'm two for two with Samsung letting me down. I can't call back through time to warn myself away from these purchases; but, at least, I can pass this along to others as something to consider.
