This receiver was very adequate for its intended purpose and a good value for the price I paid for it.

 "Awesome Receiver" 2009-09-11
By Darrell Brangham
This particular receiver is great with all sort of things you can do to it you will have a blast customizing it. For those who just want to get a receiver this still is easy to use and fun. It has many plugins in the back and HDMI. Also get the ipod dock with it because they go together like spaghetti and meatball.

 "High performance . . . but . . ." 2009-08-20
By S. Carroll
This receiver performs well technically, but learning how to operate it is time-consuming and frustrating. The procedure for setting it in up the various configurations is anything but intuitive. The manual is written in a style that is difficult to understand. I would have paid fifty dollars more to get similar performance but without the hassle.

"Oops! Read specs closely, not a true HDMI receiver." 2009-08-17
By R. W. Devries (Houston, tx United States)
My main gripe with this unit is my own fault. I read all the reviews, and purchased this to replace my Harmon Kardon AVR130 which had developed some problems. I failed to notice where it says "Does not support audio through HDMI". In my opinion this is NOT an hdmi reciever, all it does with the hdmi signal is allow you to switch between two HDMI inputs to one output. You can accomplish that with a cheap standalone HDMI switch. You still have to hookup a separate digital audio signal, and this unit only has two optical inputs, and my Xbox 360, AT&T Uverse, and Home Theater PC have only optical out, not coax digital, so my PC is left with just an analog stereo input unfortunately.

This is to be expected for a receiver at this price, but I wish I would have noticed before I bought it and hooked it up. Also the SCENE functions aren't easy to figure out, I would prefer a simple EQ or "Flat EQ" option with simple bass and treble controls. I also wonder if the RMS voltage is really what they say it is since this is much lighter and smaller than my AVR130 that was rated for less power.

Still a decent buy for the money though, but maybe not for an audiophile or someone with a big system.

"Nice Unit, Very Poor Manual" 2009-07-18
By Cazed n Donfused
The manual is just awful. I spent hours paging back and forth through the manual trying to figure out why I was getting no sound from the hdmi input. The sound was passed through the unit to the TV but it would not take the audio from the hdmi input and play through the surround system. Well there really isn't anything in the manual that tells you this so after paging around I figured out what should have been spelled out plainly. You must have a separate audio assigned to 3 input options. Missing from the sound source to assign is hdmi input. After installing an optical connection between the bluray player and assigning that connection to that source I succeeded.

I have to guess that the authors assumed it was not necessary to provide instructions for a typical set up. Something like, connect hdmi from source to receiver, then make the audio connection and finally assign the input.
