The Onkyo Tx-SR607 7.2-Channel A/V Surround Home Theatre Receiver is all the literature and advertisements said it would be and more. The product was recommended to me by a gentlemen who used to own a home theatre electronis firm. He checked all of the specifications and purchased two for himself. If it was good enough for him, then certainly it was good enough for me. I ahve had no problems and the sound quality is teriffic.Onkyo TX-SR607 7.2-Channel A/V Surround Home Theater Receiver (Silver)

I am so glad I didn't settle for less when I chose this receiver. It supports everything we could possibly want, including HDMI, Blu-Ray, and streaming NetFlix via the Internet. We are wowed by it. And by the way, we find it gets warm but not hot at all.

I purchased this receiver for my husband's birthday. He has the following review: Product shipped and received as expected. Set up was fairly easy, the instruction book could have been better written, parts were confusing, figured it out on my own. Sound quality is fantastic with my Bose speaker system. Easy to use, once you get the hang of the selector process. Unit has a multitude of configurations to satisfy any set up. Video is also great.
Only wish there were more than one HDMI output, a set up screen display for other than a HDTV (using the units display is awkward) and a convenience electrical outlet. Otherwise, great value for the price!! I would recommend this unit for those wanting a good mid-range A/V receiver with a lot of features.

Onkyo Manufacture Defects
I ordered and received an Onkyo TX-SR607 from Amazon last week. Upon opening the box, I noticed that the plastic wrap covering the receiver itself looked like it had been taken off and put back on (specifically the yellow tape). I thought that was odd, but continued to unpack the unit. When I got to the cords, they had definitely been repackaged. The tie wraps were all disfigured and cords were haphazardly put together. Then I noticed this large swirly scratch in the middle of the plastic display component on the face plate. That is when I figured someone returned the unit to Amazon and they reshipped it. I prompted called Amazon and they apologized for the mishap and sent another one next day delivery (which took two days, because they had to process the order). No worries.
The new receiver arrived afternoon before last and I opened it up yesterday morning. This time the packaging looked untouched. However, to my dismay I discovered that the new receiver also had this same swirly scratch on the plastic display component, in almost the exact same spot. In addition, the newer receiver looked even worse than the first. What the heck? Now I'm guessing the swirly scratch on the front of the first one was why it got returned to Amazon to begin with.
At any rate, I called Onkyo USA after I discovered the second one and the guy said he hadn't heard of this issue before and was surprised. He said they would investigate and took the serial numbers from both units. I also told him I had pictures and said I'd be happy to send them along (he accepted). Of course, then he simply pointed me back to Amazon, which honestly I didn't expect much more. I really just wanted them to know they had a possible manufacturing issue.
So, I called Amazon (again) and told them the dilemma. This time the CSR was very matter fact and simply said they'd sent UPS out with a return label and refund my money. She said they won't send another one, because they will likely take the item off their site, which is understandable. What stinks is that I really want this receiver as I'm trying to replace a dying Sony STR-DA80ES, but I'm afraid to order a third one from someone else.
The serial numbers from the two defective units are:
Unit 1: 0871DD2940027195
Unit 2: 0871DD2940027202
As you can see, there are only 8 serial numbers between the two receivers I received. So, I suspect someone goofed up during the manufacturing/assembly process, especially in regards to the plastic display component. Unfortunately this means there are at least 6 other units that likely have the same problem.
So, now I'm stuck either ordering from a different retailer or searching for something equivalent from a different manufacture. =(

I spent a lot of time researching A/V receivers before i purchased the Onkyo. I am thoroughly satisfied. The audio quality on this receiver is excellent. It outputs clear crisp audio even when pushing the receiver to its limits, at which point your ears will be bleeding it is so loud. So for anyone concerned about its low wattage rating, you should dismiss it unless you have very large floors standing speakers that are four or six ohms. It has many features that are very good and an ample selection of dsp modes. Its large selection of hdmi inputs are great and extremely useful. Only seconds after opening the box you will know you have purchased a very high quality receiver. Please do not hesitate in purchasing this fantastic receiver.
