By Technichem, Inc.
so far it is beautiful. not yet try it for long enough with volume level i wanted...if youre crazy about the sound but want to get just a great sound...i think you could go lower than this one. bought samsung HT in a box for $1xx...the difference is not 6x better by paying onkyo $6xx....even though samsung player has its own thing as well.

 "Audio Bliss" 2009-08-05

Others have done a fine job delineating the fine technical qualities of this unit. I bought it on sale from Vanns about 6 months ago--one of the best transactions I've ever had. Vanns is phenomenal! As for the HTS 6100, I've had Onkyo before, as well as Bose and Denon. While the latter two had their good points, the cost was not entirely justified by their ultimate quality. What I've found is that the 6100 gives me the same glorious, room-filling sound as my friend's $2400 Bose system and another friend's $2100 Denon home theater system. And now we can play our Blu-Ray discs with all the new codecs and hear it all!

What we love about the Onkyo is the shimmering treble and rumbling bass, neither of which distorts at higher volume levels. The midrange renders voice much more clearly than we had been exeriencing. The calibration system is very useful. If I had any bone to pick with this unit, it's that assigning sound characteristics to various channels requires a bit of manual reading more than I would like. I'm sure they'll find ways to make the user interface in this regard a little friendlier. Other than that, we love this unit and just wanted to add our voices to the rest of those who do as well. We are delighted with it!

"Dope system for the $$!!!" 2009-08-05
By B. Sund
I had an HDTV and a PS3, but my old surround sound system was so outdated (RCA inputs!) that I didn't want to even bother installing it in my new house. I was looking to piece together a nice system but I knew that I wanted an Onkyo receiver that would handle both HDMI audio AND video. I saw this boxed system online and decided that, for the price, the speakers and iPod dock were basically very inexpensive when you consider the price of the receiver alone.

I couldn't be happier with this product!

Obviously when you are buying an "in the box" full system you are going to get crappy speaker wire (I think this was 18-gage). So I planned ahead and ordered 250' of 2/C 14 AWG CL3 in-wall speaker wire on e-bay, knowing that I was going to eventually run everything in the walls & crawlspace.

Gathering all of the installation components took me a while so at first all I had set-up was the receiver, the sub, the center and front surround speakers and even with just those the sound was great. I will admit that the 6 satellite speakers are pretty dang big (about 14" tall x 6" wide x 4" deep) and that would be my only con with this system.

When it came time to install everything, I even ended up buying 2 ceiling speakers for my kitchen, which run from the "B Zone" on the receiver. That gives us 5.1 surround in the living room and stereo sound in the kitchen, or we can just have sound running to the kitchen. This feature may not be useful to some, but we use it all the time and I love it (very nice if you don't want to miss the football game). In fact, I think I may run another set of speakers from "Zone B", with a volume control, to the back patio.

For about $600, this system is beyond a great deal.

 "Great Value!" 2009-08-05
By M. Lantin
I've been searching all over for a HTIB system that would meet my needs, and after doing some research, decided to go with Onkyo. I have a fairly large living room with high ceilings that extends to my kitchen, so finding a decent home theater system to fill that room and sound decent wasn't easy. I didn't have $2000 to spend on a home theater system, so I had to find the best bang for my buck. This sound system has definitely met my needs, got it on sale for <$600 and has outperformed everything else I've tried (Yamaha, Sony, Panasonic, JVC). The speakers were a little bulky, but I was able to hook it up to my ceilings horizontally and it ended up looking better than I expected. The subwoofer is ginormous but very powerful. All the other HTIB systems I've tried lacked a powerful subwoofer, this has been the best so far.

The receiver has several inputs, more than you really need. The iPod dock seems to work ok so far, I was a little disappointed that it doesn't work w/ my 3G iPhone, but it's not a big deal. I would recommend getting a better gauge speaker wire as the ones the system came with are very thin, luckily my house is prewired w/ 16 gauge cables. Overall I'm extremely happy with this purchase and would highly recommend this system to anyone.

 "I love it." 2009-08-02

A great product with lots of base. Of course we have two subs now so that may help. I love being able to hook up multiple electronics to it so that I can use it for different things without having to adjust anything. Great sound quality and easy set up.
