If you want an idea of where Onkyo’s home theater packages are heading, the HT-S5200 is well worth checking out. Like previous Onkyo 7.1-channel receiver/speaker packages, the HT-S5200 delivers reassuringly hefty amounts of power and all-round performance. And in line with other recent offerings, it’s also perfectly suited for high-definition entertainment in the home: 1080p video takes center stage from sources such as Blu-ray Disc, DVD, HD broadcasting, and gaming. The emphasis is still on Onkyo’s audio prowess, so the HT-S5200 is equipped with three groundbreaking Audyssey technologies that will give you the edge in terms of surround sound. It also features some exciting innovations from Onkyo: a dedicated port that connects the iPod via the Dock for the iPod and DSP modes specifically designed for gaming.

I've been using this for about a month now and I can say you cannot beat this system for the price. The sound is incredible, in fact it's a little too overwhelming at first and I had to actually tone it down a bit with the manual settings. Using the auto-config was a cool feature but I found the bass and surround speakers to be a bit too loud for my taste. I agree with another reviewer - make sure you understand the dimensions before you buy, the speakers are definitely larger than most surround system's I've seen (even the subwoofer is huge!). I'm still playing around with the settings as they're a bit tricky to get right and it seems like they keep going back to the defaults even after I change them but maybe it's something I'm not doing correctly. Also, I guess all of the sound modes are great, but it takes a bit of experimenting to find the right one(s) for whatever you're listening too (music, games, movies, cable/satellite, etc). All in all this is a great system!

The remote can also control your tv and dvd (but not your cable box). It was simple to set up. The look of the speakers is sleek. I highly recommend this surround.

I certainly am far from an expert on setting up sound systems and this took me a little longer than expected but finally I got it up and running. I ran bigger gauge speaker wire because the ones that came were too short and thin. The room that I have it in is about 12 x 20 and the sound is great if I crank it up. It does not have as much power as I thought it would have but if you turn it up to 50-55 it will rock the place pretty good. Bass is not bad. I put in the movie the "Incredibles" because it has a great sound track and scared my mother-in-law death (good for a nice chuckle). I haven't used the speaker synchronization yet because the re-modeling project where the system is in is in the last phase. Will try that out next week. I run everything through the 5200 including my comcast cable box and my new Onkyo dvd player. For the money I don't think you can go wrong. Glad I bought it.

This package is worth the money. It's so much more than a normal home theater system, this is what you call "equipment", or "the proper tools". If you purchase this system w/ out noting the dimensions, you are in for a surprise. The speakers came larger than I expected, and they were encased in sweet smelling finished wood... black with grain still visible. Rich sound with complete bass, (the bass isn't just sloppy thunder) and the sub comes with its own effn power cord. Onkyo is the Japanese word for sound.

I bought this system based on Amazon.com reviewer recommendations. They were spot on. Sound quality is outstanding. Speaker wires are a little lame, and a bit short for the rear speakers. That is why I didn't rate the system higher. I recommend this system if you are looking for great sound at an affordable price.
