 "New to Blu-ray" 2009-08-29
By Clinton W. Salvato (Daytona Beach, FL)
Hi, I would like to interject some insight here:

First of all, I think it's a good idea for a little background: I am a Broadcast and video student so video concepts and equipment are not new to me.

Second of all the average consumer doesn't think about copy protection and other licensing issues that go along with these technologies.

With This said, the Panasonic unit described has preformed beautifully no freezes on blu ray discs or standard DVDs. I am legally blind, so i was a bit unsure how much difference i'd noticed with blu ray on my 26" HDTV and was really pleased with the results. Sound and video quality are great over HDMI Cable. Panasonic has a very solid reputation with their products and company support. And I would recommend any of their products including this one.

As far as firmware updates go, many updates for any player are primarily addressing the same types of issues. added features, bug fixes and updated copy protection. I'm willing to step out and say many playback issues are connected to copy protection somehow, while it's possible to have faulty unity The question would be then, why out of all the reviews posted here, (including mine) do only a few people here and there have issues? (Product defects that stand out, usually happen on a larger number devices produced) There are just so many different configuration differences and hardware devices out there, that no all are going to play nice, it's like anything else, computer related.

Anyway The panasonic is also a nice alternative appletv with amazon video on demand now supported.

I find youtube to work flawlessly I have the unit hardwired to my airport extreme base station.

Closing thoughts, The panasonic is a solid unit for blu ray beginners and an intermediate user. If you want more stable licensing and reliable playback encourage people not to pirate their movies. That's what it boils down to when companies enforce copy protection and blu ray uses HDCP which is a nightmare, everything has to authenticate and talk nice before video will even play

"Freezes on almost any disk for few seconds" 2009-08-28
By SL (Miami, FL)
The BD60 is cheap and produces a very good picture. I can't recommend it, however, since the pause for few seconds on almost every BD disk is really annoying. I had a unit replaced but the bug was still there. After 2 firmware updates, the problem was not fixed and maybe it's hardware related. I also had 2 disks that didn't play at all and played fine on my BD30. I finally returned the BD60 and kept the BD30. Stay away from the BD60 !

"problems of freeze and loss of audio" 2009-08-27
By Y. Xie (Saint Louis, MO USA)
BDiscs and DVDs occasionally freeze for a couple of seconds while playing or right after fast forwarding. There is also temporary random loss of audio/sound after freeze or fast forwarding. Have to SKIP back or forward to resume sound. The problems occur to multiple discs already so I'm sure it's not the problem of the discs. Already asked Amazon for a replacement. Will report back if the problems persist in the replacement unit. A good player otherwise.

"Good but lacking a few minor details..." 2009-08-24
By Ricardo Miller (Jamaica)
Firstly, this player does its job well...it produces stunning HD images on my Panasonic HDTV. The load time is acceptable for me and i have not met any problems as it relates to playing Blu-ray movies so far. My problem though is that in this day and age where everything is wireless, they should have included a wireless option to connect to a home network. This means that if i want to enjoy all the online features i will have to run a wire from my router in the computer room to the living room, or purchase a wireless adapter.

I was happy to realize that the remote recognized my Panasonic tv without having to programme it. Then i became disappointed to realise that this is only limited to controlling the power and the volume and channel switches. Now i think about it, what else do i want to control on the tv? ...hmmm. I guess that is ok then.

The price was very important in my decision and so i would definately recommend this to anyone.

 "Great Player Overall" 2009-08-21
By M. Mibab (Atlanta, GA)
Hi. I am the polar opposite of a techie. I am completely new to HDTVs and Blu-Ray Discs. I bought this player because of the great reviews it received, and because of the AMAZING price.

I love it. The picture quality is excellent. Everything looks like it is in 3-D. The picture is so crisp and sharp and bright and simply amazing. I think it does a very nice job of upconverting regular, non-blu-ray DVDs.

Unfortunately for me, it does not eliminate the motion blur problem I have with my new Samsung HDTV (a TV that advertises its auto motion plus blur reduction feature!).

The load time took some getting used to. I'm very impatient, and will need to adjust to this. Are all blu-ray players like that? I have no idea.

I also hate that there is no open/close button on the player, only on the remote. If you're nearer the player, you have to back up and find the remote to get the disc out.

Overall, I'm very happy with it though and have already highly recommended it to friends.
